Martinborough - Wine tasting on foot!
We leave Napier much earlier than we wanted to really, but have heard that Martinborough is very busy. It is a scorching day set to be 30+ we have a good journey and arrive to searing temperatures and no accomodation. A visit to the Information centre sorts us out & we get a cottage 3 beds really nice. Up to Tirohana a winery to collect the key have a tasing platter and a glass of SB. Down to the cottage & out into the heat. We only manage a couple of tastings and have to admit defeat. We later find out it is 38c. We go to Tirohana for our dinner it is a stunning resturant set in the vinyard. Next morning it is much cooler & we manage 3 good tastings and then lunch at Alana winery excellent food. Martinborouh is a very small town, where you can walk or bike around. When we arrived we were met with a very trendy away from Wellington, boutique place. On the Sunday night it was like a ghost town, you could almost see the tumble weed blowing down the street. The wineries we visited were Pallisers, Croft, Ata Rangi, Martinborough & Burnt Spur, Margrain. We loved it there hardly saw another car or person.

Now I wil have to go back to New Zealand - never got to Martinborough and sounds like it is well worth a visit.
I'm starting to pick up a theme - food, wine and glorious sunshine!
Will put some snow in the freezer for you just in case it's all gone when you return......if you return?
