Napier - Art Deco & Wine Tours

After leaving Rotorua we headed for Napier. Arriving earlier than expected we booked into the shoreline Motel see prvious photo & links. Really great accommadation spa pool, Pacific view boiling hot weather. We have a walk into the town and book into a place for dinner which look great but turn out that the menu is good reading only! Mind you we did get to try some of the local wines! Wake up the next mornig to find Ian has gone & left me on my own. It is a great sunny morning so I catch up on a few washing duties boring but needs to be done. We have breakfast over looking the ocean & then head off for the walking tour. Napier was destroyed by an earthquake in about 1931 I think and was totally rebuilt in the Art deco style. We have a very interesting tour learn a lot about Napier & earthquakes!!!! It is really hot about 29c so we then head off to the beach for an hour to cool off. That night we are picked up at 5.30 by a very handsome young fellow called Carl. We are off on our wine tour provided by Oddesy www.odysseynz.com There are 6 of us on the tour. John & Sandra from Colchester & Tim & Nina from Frankfurt. First stop Vidal fro a tasting platter of amazing foods and about 6 or 7 wines. Then up to Te Mata peak for Sundowners sparkling NZ Rose and a views to die for. On to Elephant hills winery which has just opened up a fab new restaurant 7 Jose Carreas (spelling??) but you know who I mean is sing there the night after we visit. I am sure he will be sorry he missed us. we ahve a brilliant meal and Elephant hills pinot noir. theer is so much more t tell but I do not have the ti,e you will have to read my diary when I get home! Hi guys! Just got caught up on all your posts. Sounds like an amazing trip - and my kind of trip with all the food and wine. Your futures may well include a stint as travel writers - wouldn't be a bad gig. All our best. Have one for me.
