Kaikoura - Sea experiences and Sunshine

We left Blenheim around about 8am. Had a great drive towards Kaikoura, magnificent scenery, quite stunning. We came around a corner in a place called Clarence & these magnificent mountains rose in front of us. An Eagle was soaring high above, do not know what type it was but it was huge! The land from Blenheim almost to Kaikoura is now planted with vines, the wine industry is taking over here big time & most of the farmland is now wine land. We arrive early at our motel but manage to check in ok. Then off into town to book a whale watching trip, we are lucky and manage to get one around lunch time. I am filled with intrepidation as many rumors of seasickness are flying around. We have a short wait & then are off on our trip. We travel about 7k out to sea which is a bit bumpy but fine.In a very short space of time see our first Whale, a Sperm whale, we did not have to wait long for the spectacular dive and the big tail. In all we see 5 whales, a blue penguin, a yellow eyed penguin ( Very rare!) but he was injured so they had to call the rescue out to him. We came across a pod of Dusky Dolphins and watched them playing around the boat for a while. We also saw several other seabirds but most magnificent of all was the Albatross we had several sightings. The sea is an amazing turquoise colour and the sky very blue.
Today is Sat Feb 7th and this morning we got up early again because today I went swimming with the Dolphins, bit of a fiasco to begin with, but complete in wet suit (no jokes please) and despite having to swim from one boat to another in the Pacific Ocean AND being separated from Ian I managed to experience snorkeling amid a pod of about 200+ Dusky Dolphins. Fab. We have seen some fantastic things here & are desperately trying to remember them all. Here are a few more photos.

These experiences will live with you forever, what a wonderful time you are having. The photos are brilliant - I would say award winning but maybe? I am a little biased.
Wondering what will be next on this great blog.
Love from all in the frozen north.

well, Jon's come over all unnecessary with all the talk about you in a wetsuit. He was very keen to go to the scuba diving shop earlier.

Really sounds like you are having a fabulous time - it must be good to have this blog as well as your diary so you have an accurate record of your adventures and can relive them all when you have to return to reality (sorry to bring that up!)

Look forward to the next update . . . .
